Explanatory Writing is meant to explain something in order to inform the audience. When you are given an Explanatory prompt, you will be asked to respond to a quotation and should focus on using the three (3) paragraph structure which is outlined below.

Paragraph 1
Interpret the quotation/Put it in your own words

Paragraph 2
Personal Connection: What first hand observations/experiences do you have that support the quote?

Paragraph 3
Big Picture: What has happened in the world that supports this quote? Can you connect this quote to a book you have read or a famous person you admire?
